1978/9 was a remarkable season for Hamburg and their English striker. Guided by new manager Branko Zebec the club won the league for the first time in 19 years, with Keegan picking up 17 Bundesliga goals as well as a second Ballon d'Or. He remains the only British player to have won the coverted award twice, let alone in consecutive years.

That summer Keegan moved back to England, his suprise signing for second division Southampton for a record fee having already been announced in February.
Undoubtedly Keegan's time at the famous port town is among the most succesful overseas moves by any British footballer in history.
