The first was a 1-1 draw in Rome in 1933. A year later the sides met in what became known as 'The Battle of Highbury'. Italy, playing their first game since winning that year's World Cup Final, a tournament England had declined to take part in, were defeated 3-2. However the match was so violent that it provoked debate about whether England should withdraw from international football entirely. It was a memorable occassion for several reasons - it was a rare outing for England in a yellow strip, Moore, playing in his 107th game, broke Bobby Charlton's England cap record, and Italy finally beat England, with Fabio Capello scoring one of the goals in the 2-0 win.
